Atlanta, Georgia, is not just home to the world’s busiest airport—it’s a hub of events, activities, restaurants and culture. Below, see a few examples of things to see and do while visiting Atlanta. During your stay, Metropolitan Shuttle can provide cost-effective, convenient transportation from all points in the city and outlying areas with bus charter and shuttle services.
What to Expect Upon Arriving in Atlanta
Like any large metropolitan area, Atlanta has its share of traffic. Atlanta drivers are known for speeding and impatience – a tricky combination with which a driver who doesn’t know his way around has to contend. If you’re traveling into the city from the airport between 7:30 and 9:30 in the morning, expect traffic to be slow, likewise between four and seven in the evening. As well, if you’re in Atlanta during baseball season, there are likely to be additional slowdowns on I-75/85 near Turner Field on game days. Interstates 75 and 85 become a single 12-lane highway known as “The Connector” through the heart of Atlanta; this is where you’ll experience the slowest traffic backups during rush hour heading south. For the evening rush, the same bottleneck will occur, but heading north. It’s advised that drivers avoid “Spaghetti Junction”, the area where I-285 north meets I-85, during the morning and afternoon rush hours.
If this seems daunting, there are public transportation options that might alleviate sitting in traffic for an extended period of time. The Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA) begins at the airport and runs north-south to downtown Atlanta. The Atlanta LINK also offers shuttle service to downtown, Midtown or Buckhead.
The MARTA trains have limited routes; they’re most convenient if you’re heading to major areas of interest and don’t mind some on-foot travel once you’re there. Further, hailing a taxi in Atlanta can be tricky; residents recommend that if you’re going to expect to use one, you should call ahead. While the neighborhoods within Atlanta’s downtown are pedestrian-friendly, you will need transportation to get to those areas.
Or, if you want to travel in comfort to your exact destination without having to navigate confusing traffic patterns on your own, Metropolitan Shuttle’s charter buses, mini buses and shuttle vans can transport your small or large group to anywhere you need to go in Atlanta.
