The busy Interstate-95 runs north to south through Providence, and traffic can get congested during business hours. Kennedy Plaza in downtown Providence is a transportation hub for local public transit and private bus lines.

Providence is a city brimming with history. The East Side neighborhood in particular includes many pre-revolutionary homes and features the largest contiguous area of buildings to be listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States.

The city, with its diverse population, has one of the most active and growing gay communities in the Northeast.
