56 Passenger Charter Bus Rental in New York City: Full-Size Coaches and What Three 2026 Trips Cost
Three groups rented a 56-passenger charter bus from us in New York City over the last two months. A university group landing at JFK paid $875 for a one-way run to a Times Square hotel. A second university group paid $1,000 to get from Chelsea to Nasdaq for a morning and back. A Midtown company paid $1,245 to move 50 employees to Hunts Point and home again on a Friday. Those are the actual invoices, and they are the fastest way to understand what a full-size coach costs in this city.
Metropolitan Shuttle is a transportation management company that has arranged New York City charter bus rental since 2001. We do not own the coaches. We vet the operators who do, confirm insurance and safety records before booking, and assign one coordinator who owns your trip start to finish.

Prices are per coach, driver included. Congestion charges and tolls were itemized where they applied.
The $875 JFK transfer.
Forty people and their luggage, one coach, one direction. The bus met the group at JFK on a Saturday afternoon and dropped at the hotel on West 44th Street. There was no standby and no return, so it priced as a flat transfer rather than five hours at an hourly rate. A 56-passenger coach is the only vehicle on this site that can take 40 travelers and 40 checked bags in one trip; a minibus would have needed a second vehicle or a luggage van.
The $1,000 Nasdaq morning.
A university group left Chelsea at 7:20 a.m., arrived at Nasdaq in time for a 7:45 start, and departed at 10:30 for an 11:00 arrival back. Door to door it was a little over three hours, which bills as the five-hour minimum.
The $1,245 Hunts Point round trip.
Fifty employees from a Sixth Avenue office to a facility in Hunts Point on a Friday, three and a half hours out and back. At the five-hour minimum this works out to about $249 an hour, in the middle of the published NYC range for a full-size coach.
How much does a 56 passenger charter bus rental cost in New York City?
Published 2026 rates for a full-size motorcoach in the New York metro are $185 to $350 per hour, with most local charters billed at a five-hour minimum, and $1,850 to $3,000 for a full day. The three trips above landed at $875, $1,000, and $1,245. The spread comes down to three things: whether the coach waited (standby time is billed), whether it entered the congestion zone ($21.60 per peak entry, itemized), and the day of the week. A Saturday evening in June prices above a Tuesday morning in October.
The NYC charter bus cost guide covers tolls, metered bus parking at $20 an hour, driver gratuity, and the federal driver-hour limits that shape long days. Two things from it worth repeating here: tunnel crossings earn a partial congestion credit of up to $7.20, and the FDR Drive and West Side Highway are outside the zone, which is why a coach routing to the Bronx or to the George Washington Bridge often costs less than the map suggests.
What a 56-passenger charter bus carries
- 52 to 56 reclining seats with footrests, Wi-Fi, 110-volt outlets at the seats, and HD monitors
- An onboard restroom
- 400 to 500 cubic feet of underfloor luggage bays: one large checked suitcase plus one carry-on per passenger at full capacity
- Climate control and a PA system for the trip leader
- ADA-accessible coaches on request; tell us when you book
That luggage capacity is the reason the airport trips on this page run on a coach. A 40-passenger coach carries the same amenities for a smaller group; a 35-passenger minibus does not have the bays, and a 35-person group with luggage should size up.
Where NYC groups take a full-size coach
Airport arrivals and departures. JFK, LaGuardia, and Newark all have coach staging; we confirm the meeting point and the flight number so the driver is there when the group clears baggage. See airport transfer bus rentals in NYC.
University and school groups. Both university trips on this page were planned by a program office, not a student. Schools and universities can pay by purchase order and receive a certificate of insurance naming the institution. See school and university bus rentals in NYC.
Corporate moves. Fifty people to one site and back is the classic use. For a department off-site, a Javits load-in, or a team event in the outer boroughs, see corporate charter bus services in NYC.
Trips out of the city. The Hamptons, the Hudson Valley, Atlantic City, Philadelphia, Boston, and Washington, DC are all coach territory. Past about 100 miles, or on any overnight, the restroom and the luggage bays stop being nice to have.
What NYC rules mean for a coach
A 45-foot coach cannot use the Brooklyn Bridge, the Henry Hudson Parkway, most of the FDR Drive, or the Central Park drives. It stages in designated, metered bus spaces, three hours at a time, and it cannot idle at a layover above 40 degrees. None of this changes your price if the itinerary is planned around it, and that planning is what we do before we send a quote. Our NYC parking guide has the layover blocks by neighborhood.
Other NYC vehicles
If 56 seats is more than you need: the 40-passenger coach for 30 to 40 with luggage, the 30-passenger minibus for local days, the 25-passenger minibus and 20-passenger minibus for smaller groups, and a Sprinter van with driver for 12 to 14. If you need more than 56 seats, we run multiple coaches as one fleet; a 110-guest Broadway evening on two coaches this June was $5,050 all-inclusive. For the full lineup and national pricing, see charter bus rental and the national 56-passenger charter bus page.
