Chicago corporate and employee shuttle services: daily commuter, campus, and site programs
A corporate shuttle is not a charter. It is the same route, every working day: a Metra station to an office park in Schaumburg at 7:40 and 8:10, a remote lot to a construction site in the Loop before the first shift, a hospital garage to a medical campus across the Illinois Medical District, a Hyde Park dorm to a lab on the Midway. Metropolitan Shuttle has run employee and corporate shuttle programs in Chicago since 2001 through vetted local operators and our Single-Point Accountability Model giving you a dedicated coordinator who manages your project from start to finish.
We price them the way programs should be priced: per route, per day, with a published range, not as a stack of individual charters. Bus programs run from $850 to $1,450 per bus per service day depending on hours and vehicle; a single route typically invoices $4,180 to $7,175 a week, and multi-vehicle programs can run $30,000 to $60,000 or more a month. A shuttle van program on a short loop runs well under that: one Loop construction company’s four-hour afternoon van loop, running five days a week,, prices below $400 a day. Across a full bus a program works out to about $28 per seat per service day, which is what a contracted route costs and a charter rate never reaches, because charter pricing assumes the vehicle sits idle half the time and a daily program does not.
What a Chicago corporate shuttle program costs
A shuttle program is priced per route, per service day, not as a stack of individual charters. The published figures below are the ones we quote against in Chicago and in every other market we run programs; the full breakdown, with worked examples, is on our employee shuttle cost page.
| Program shape | What it covers | Published range |
|---|---|---|
| Bus program, per bus per service day | A 25- to 56-passenger shuttle bus with driver on a fixed route, typically four to ten hours a day | $850 to $1,450 |
| Single bus route, per week | One route, one vehicle, five service days | $4,180 to $7,175, most commonly about $5,225 |
| Single bus route, per month | One route, one vehicle, a full month of service days | $18,000 to $31,000 |
| Multi-vehicle program, per month | Two or more buses on one or more routes | $30,000 to $60,000 or more |
| Shuttle van program, per service day | A 12- to 14-seat van with one driver on a short loop of a few stops, typically three to four hours | Below $400 |
| Per seat, full bus | What a bus program costs per rider per service day when the seats are filled | About $28 |
Where a program lands inside those ranges depends on four things: the vehicle class, the hours per service day, the number of service days committed, and the route itself, meaning distance, stops, and how much of the day the vehicle is actually moving. A four-hour afternoon loop on a van and a ten-hour split-shift bus route are both shuttle programs, and they sit at opposite ends of the table. The Wacker Drive van loop described below is the Chicago example of the first; the office-park and hospital routes in the next section are usually the second.
The reason a program prices well under what the same hours would cost one trip at a time is structural, not promotional. Charter pricing across the industry is built on the assumption that a vehicle sits idle roughly half the time it is available, and every charter hour has to carry the cost of the hours that go unsold. A contracted daily program breaks that paradigm. The operator knows the vehicle and driver are committed every service day for the life of the contract, the deadhead is planned once rather than quoted every time, and the utilization risk that charter rates have to absorb is gone. That certainty is what you are buying, and it is why a program is quoted as a day rate on a published range rather than as a charter with a minimum.
Two things a Chicago program price always includes and one it does not. It includes the driver, fuel, insurance, and the coordinator who manages the route from start to finish, and it includes the schedule adjustments that any real program needs in its first weeks. It does not include parking or staging costs that are specific to your site, which are identified during route design and shown on the quote, never discovered after it. If you are weighing a contracted program against running your own vans, our comparison of in-house versus outsourced employee shuttle programs lays out the full cost of each side, including the costs that do not show up on a vehicle invoice.

Who runs corporate shuttles in Chicago
The Chicago programs we run fall into five shapes, and each one exists because the city’s transit, parking, or geography leaves a gap that a scheduled route closes more cheaply than any alternative.
- Suburban office parks with a Metra gap. Schaumburg, Naperville, Oak Brook, and Deerfield hold some of the largest office concentrations in the region, and most of them sit a mile or more from the nearest Metra station. A corporate shuttle meets the 7:40 and the 8:10 at the station and runs the reverse in the evening, which lets an employer recruit from the city without asking anyone to own a second car. These are usually bus routes on a split shift, morning and evening, and they sit in the $850 to $1,450 per day range depending on hours and vehicle.
- Hospitals and medical campuses. The Illinois Medical District, the Northwestern and Rush corridors, and the Hyde Park medical campus all share the same problem: thousands of staff on shifts that start before transit is reliable and end after it thins out, and parking that is either remote, expensive, or both. A hospital shuttle runs garage to campus, or satellite lot to main entrance, on a loop that repeats through the shift change. Reliability matters more here than anywhere else we work, because a late shuttle is a late nurse.
- Construction sites downtown with no parking. This is the shape Chicago asks about most. A general contractor wins a large project in the Loop, River North, or the West Loop, and a crew of forty to a hundred and fifty has nowhere to park within a mile of the site, or the parking that exists costs more per day than the crew’s lunch. The answer is a remote lot, often in a neighborhood or a suburb with cheap daily parking, and a crew shuttle that runs lot to site before the first shift and site to lot after the last one, with a midday loop if the schedule needs it. A bus handles a large crew; a van handles a crew of a dozen on a shorter run. The program is priced per service day for the life of the project, so the cost is a known line in the job budget rather than a daily variable, and the contractor stops losing the first half hour of every shift to people hunting for a space. It is the single most cost-effective program we run in this city, because the alternative is paid downtown parking for every worker, every day, for the length of the job. The Wacker Drive van loop described below is a construction company’s program running in the other direction, from the office out to the garage and the train.
- Universities and research campuses. Hyde Park, Evanston, the Medical District, and the research parks in the western suburbs all run shuttles between residence halls, labs, satellite buildings, and transit. These programs are often scheduled around the academic calendar, with reduced service in summer and full service during term, and the per-day pricing adjusts with the schedule rather than locking in a flat year.
- Logistics and manufacturing on second and third shifts. Distribution centers and plants in the southwest suburbs, the I-55 and I-80 corridors, and the Northwest Indiana line run shifts that start at 10 pm or 2 am, when transit does not. Two of the largest logistics companies in the world and a number of regional manufacturers run shuttle programs with us for exactly this reason: a shift that cannot be staffed by people who depend on a bus that stopped running at midnight. These are typically bus routes from a transit hub or a park-and-ride to the facility, timed to the shift change, and they are among the longest-running programs we have anywhere.
If your situation fits one of these, the route is already half designed. If it fits none of them, that is a conversation worth having, because the shapes above are where we started, not where we stopped.

A Chicago shuttle program, as it runs
Since early May, a shuttle van has run a four-hour afternoon loop for a construction company headquartered on Wacker Drive, five days a week, excluding major holidays. The van leaves the office, stops at the company’s assigned parking garage in River North, continues to Ogilvie Transportation Center on West Madison, then Union Station on South Canal, and returns to Wacker Drive to go again, from 3:45 to 7:45 pm. The problem it solves is the last half-mile that Chicago transit does not: a workforce that drives to a garage or rides Metra home, and an office that is a long walk from either in January. One van, one driver, a loop that repeats as long as people are leaving, and a program price that comes in below $400 per service day. That is what a corporate shuttle in the Loop looks like, and it is priced as a program, not as four hours of charter.
| Program | Shape | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Wacker Drive office to assigned parking garage (River North), Ogilvie Transportation Center, Union Station, and back, repeating, 3:45 to 7:45 pm, five days a week, since May 2026 | Shuttle van, afternoon commuter loop, four hours per service day | Below $400 per day |
