Charter bus options in Dayton, Ohio
Known to many as the Gem City, Dayton is a city of approximately 166,000 people in the city proper and over a million people in the surrounding metropolitan area. The birthplace of aviation and the home of the Wright brothers, Dayton is also home to the Dayton Aviation Heritage Park, one of only a few multi-site national parks in the United States.
Dayton’s climate is humid and continental, with cold winters, cool springs, and hot humid summers. Annual events include the Dayton Air Show and the Greek Festival, as well as summer events along Riverscape. Dayton is also a city rich in culture and the performing arts, with many theaters, museums, and cultural events for visitors to enjoy year-round.
Transportation in and Around Dayton
Visitors to Dayton by air will arrive via the James M. Cox Dayton International Airport (DAY), to the north of the city. Dayton is unusual in that it can be reached in ninety minutes or less by over half the U.S. population, making it a popular destination and one of the busiest airports in the United States. Unfortunately, the airport has no bus service or public transportation options, meaning cabs, rental cars, or a rented shuttle bus is the only option for traveling downtown from the airport. There are also several regional airports in the area, such as the Dayton-Wright Brothers airport, ten miles from the city. There is also a Greyhound bus station, open from 5AM to 11PM daily, and no commuter train service.
Interstates 70 and 75 meet north of Dayton, with I-75 running north to south through the city, and I-70 running east to west. Dayton is also served by I-675, US 35, Route 4, and Route 444. Dayton is easy to travel by car, with travelers able to get from the center of the city to rural areas in only minutes. The center of the city also features many scenic bike trails, and Dayton is one of only two cities in Ohio to be deemed “bicycle-friendly” by the League of American Bicyclists. Visitors looking for easy, convenient travel around the city, particularly during challenging rush hour traffic, can charter a shuttle bus from companies such as Metropolitan Shuttle.
