Metropolitan Shuttle Environmental Science Studies Scholarship

Environmental Science Studies, once a peripheral academic discipline with little more than a survey course or two on offer at most colleges, is now an integral part of the curricula at all major universities and colleges in the country. The challenges facing mankind and the environment are manifold and urgent. Not surprisingly, academic institutions now mirror these challenges by offering robust programs of study intended to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to meet the challenge.

As a participant in an industry that burns fossil fuels, Metropolitan Shuttle nevertheless has a keen interest in seeking ways in which the group transportation industry can mitigate its impact on the environment while continuing to provide a cost-effective service that will continue to be in high demand. Use of group transportation itself (as opposed to numerous smaller vehicles), biodiesels, better city planning to encourage group transportation, etc. are a few ideas circulating. What are your ideas? In what direction do you believe the group transportation industry will move? Should move?

ELIGIBILITY

Currently enrolled or matriculated in a participating college or university.

Must have declared a major in environmental studies and/or in a graduate studies program in environmental studies.

Deadline for 2019-2020 academic year was June 1, 2019.

HOW TO APPLY

Students must describe, in 400 words or less, the direction the group transportation industry will take in the next 5, 10 and/or 25 years. Will it still exist? Should it still exist? If so in what form? How will our country and the world make it sustainable?
