Memphis Charter Buses
The seat of Shelby County and the home of Graceland, Memphis is the largest city in the state of Tennessee and the third largest in the southeast. The greater metropolitan area of Memphis has a population of just over 1.3 million. Known as the home of blues music and offering a wide variety of museums, musical venues, and culture, Memphis has undergone a revival in recent years, with new development underway in many parts of the city. Memphis has very hot summers, making visiting during the hot months of July and August a daunting prospect.
Memphis is most famous for its rich, vibrant music history, and visitors can not only visit the world-famous Graceland, but also a variety of music museums and music festivals, as well as music-themed restaurants and eateries such as Rum Boogie Cafe, B.B., King’s Blues Club, and the Blues City Cafe.
Transportation in and Around Memphis
Memphis is served by the Memphis International Airport (MTH), which is especially busy since MTH is a primary FedEx distribution center and the world’s busiest airport for cargo. MTA is also a Delta hub, and is served by AirTran, American Airlines, United Airlines, and US Airways.
By car, visitors to Memphis will most likely arrive by Interstate 40 or I-55. Amtrak also offers service to and from Chicago and New Orleans, and Greyhound and Megabus both have depots in Memphis.
As with many major cities, travel outside the downtown area is likely to require a car, taxi or shuttle bus. Public transport is handled by the Memphis Area Transit Authority (MATA), but service becomes less reliable in the evenings and late at night, and the routes can be confusing for the unfamiliar.
There is a trolley system that serves downtown and midtown Memphis, mostly for tourist use, and there is an airport service called Bettie Bus that shuttles to and from the airport, as well as doing local tours. Travelers looking to get around Memphis with convenience and comfort can also charter a bus from services such as Metropolitan Shuttle.
