56 Passenger Charter Bus Rental in Philadelphia: Full-Size Coaches and What Three 2026 Trips Cost
Three groups rented 56-passenger charter buses from us in Philadelphia this year, and between them they show what a full-size coach is for. A corporate group took fifty people from the Ritz-Carlton on Avenue of the Arts to an office in Cherry Hill at 7:45 on a Thursday morning in September, back to the hotel at 3:45, out to Citizens Bank Park at 5 and home from the ballpark at 9:30, for $2,350. Green Thumb Industries moved 55 VIP guests from the Twisted Tail in Headhouse Square to the 2300 Arena on a Wednesday evening in August, one way, for $1,325. Fifty-two Denney Electric employees rode from Ambler to a Phillies game in May for $1,495. Those are the invoices, and they are the fastest way to understand what a coach costs here.
Metropolitan Shuttle is a transportation management company that has arranged Philadelphia charter bus rental since 2001. We do not own the coaches. We vet the operators who do, confirm insurance and safety records before booking, and assign one coordinator who owns your trip start to finish.

Prices are per coach, driver included. DRPA bridge tolls at $4.50 per axle each way and the $80 oversized-vehicle lot at the South Philadelphia Sports Complex are itemized where they apply.
The $2,350 four-leg day.
This is the trip that shows what a coach and a single point of contact are for. Four legs across fifteen hours: Avenue of the Arts across the Ben Franklin Bridge to Cherry Hill in the morning commute, standby through the workday, the return in the afternoon, a second departure to the ballpark at five, and the drive home after the ninth inning. One coach, one driver inside federal hours, one invoice. Fifteen hours works out to about $157 an hour, the lowest hourly rate on this page, because the rate falls as the day lengthens and the standby hours price below the driving hours. The alternative, two coaches on two shorter charters, prices higher and puts the 9:30 PM pickup at the mercy of whichever coach is free on a Thursday night in September.
The $1,325 one-way VIP transfer.
Fifty-five guests, three miles, one drop. Green Thumb Industries loaded at the Twisted Tail on South 2nd Street at 5:30 on a Wednesday in late August and unloaded at the 2300 Arena on Swanson Street twenty minutes later. A coach was the right vehicle for a reason that has nothing to do with distance: it is the only single vehicle that moves 55 people at once, arriving together, which is the point of a VIP transfer. The price is the five-hour coach minimum with a slight discount: our national pricing puts the minimum at $1,450, and this one billed $1,325. A coach and driver are committed to the evening whether the drop takes twenty minutes or two hours, which is why a one-way still carries the minimum; a split onto two minibuses would have cost more and arrived twice.
The $1,495 game night from Ambler.
Fifty-two people, six hours of service, a suburban pickup. The Ambler address matters to the price: the coach travels from its yard to Ambler before the first passenger boards, and that positioning is built into the quote. At $1,495 for 52 passengers, the round trip to the ballpark cost under $29 a head, which is the arithmetic that makes a full-size coach the cheapest seat in Philadelphia once the group passes forty.
How much does a 56 passenger charter bus rental cost in Philadelphia?
Published 2026 rates for a full-size motorcoach in Philadelphia are $175 to $300 per hour, with most local charters billed at a four-to-five-hour minimum, and $1,400 to $1,700 for a standard eight-to-ten-hour day. The three trips above landed at $1,325, $1,495 and $2,350. All three priced inside the band: the first two against the five-hour minimum, the third as a fifteen-hour day at about $157 an hour, well inside the national coach band for a long day. Philadelphia’s peak runs April through June, when commencements at Penn, Drexel, Temple and Villanova, spring conventions and the start of the Phillies season draw on the same pool of coaches; the May trip was priced as peak season, the August and September trips were not.
What Philadelphia adds: DRPA bridge tolls on any Cherry Hill, Camden or shore run, Turnpike tolls toward the Lehigh Valley or New York, the $80 oversized-vehicle lot at the sports complex, and standby time whenever the coach waits on site. All of it is itemized on the quote. Our Philadelphia charter bus cost article walks through each factor, and the Philadelphia charter bus rental hub has the full rate table by bus type.
What a 56-passenger charter bus carries
- 52 to 56 reclining seats with footrests, Wi-Fi, 110-volt outlets at the seats and HD monitors
- An onboard restroom
- 400 to 500 cubic feet of underfloor luggage bays: one large checked suitcase plus one carry-on per passenger at full capacity
- Climate control and a PA system for the trip leader
- ADA-accessible coaches on request; tell us when you book
That luggage capacity is why conference groups and PHL arrivals ride coaches. A 40-passenger coach carries the same amenities for a smaller group; a 35-passenger minibus does not have the bays, and a 35-person group with suitcases should size up.
Where Philadelphia groups take a full-size coach
Corporate days between Center City and South Jersey. Office visits in Cherry Hill and Camden, all-hands offsites, conference moves to the Pennsylvania Convention Center, VIP event transfers. See Philadelphia corporate charter bus rentals.
Game days. Citizens Bank Park, Lincoln Financial Field and Xfinity Mobile Arena all stage coaches in the oversized-vehicle lot; parking is itemized. Two of the three trips on this page ended at the ballpark. See Philadelphia sports team and fan bus charters.
Campus and school moves. Penn, Drexel and Temple to Washington, New York and Gettysburg; district trips that outgrow a school bus. Schools and universities can pay by purchase order and receive a certificate of insurance naming the institution. See school and university bus rentals in Philadelphia.
Airport transfers. PHL arrivals to Center City hotels and conference departures: a 56 takes a full group and its luggage in one trip. See airport shuttle bus rentals in Philadelphia and, for agents, Philadelphia travel agent bus rentals.
Trips out of the region. New York, Washington, Baltimore, Gettysburg, Hershey, the Poconos and the shore are coach territory. Past about 100 miles, or on any overnight, the restroom and the bays stop being nice to have. Federal driver-hour limits apply: ten hours driving, fifteen on duty, then eight off. An itinerary that runs from a 6 AM pickup to a midnight return is a two-driver day, and we price it that way from the start.
Other Philadelphia vehicles
If 56 seats is more than you need: the 40-passenger coach for 30 to 40 with luggage, the Philadelphia minibus in 18 to 35 seats for local days, and the Sprinter van for 12 to 14. If you need more than 56 seats, we run multiple coaches as one fleet with one coordinator; two 56s moved 160 people from the Marriott Old City to Lucky Strike in staggered waves in May for $1,465 per coach.
