Plan a Shopping and Theater Trip to NYC

New York. They say if you can make it there, you can make it anywhere. But what if you had only one day in New York City? What could you see, and where would you go?

If you’ve ever dreamed of taking a shopping and theater trip to NYC, you might be surprised at what you could accomplish with a little bit of planning. If you live within a few hundred miles of the city, you could be in and out in a day, without spending money on a hotel. And with Metropolitan Shuttle, you can get even more done — after all, planning and organizing trips is our number one specialty.

Stick to Manhattan

While it would be great to see all of the Big Apple on your trip, the truth is, Manhattan is your best bet for getting as much of the “New York experience” as possible. Manhattan is dense, centrally located, and contains many of the most iconic locales that represent the city: Wall Street, Central Park, the Guggenheim, Greenwich Village, and of course Broadway. If you’re taking a theater trip, there’s no other choice than Manhattan’s Theater District on the west side of Midtown, where you can also visit the “crossroads of the world,” Times Square.

Midtown: Shopping Paradise

If you’re serious about getting some shopping done, there may literally be no better destination than Midtown Manhattan. There, you will find the iconic Fifth Avenue, with all its famous stores: FAO Schwarz, Gucci, Versace, Tiffany’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale’s, and many more.

If you want to stay in the Theater District, you can go by Macy’s flagship store, the “Largest Department Store in the World” at a full city block in size.

On the other hand, if you’re looking for bargains — such as knock-off bags or bargain souvenirs — you can head to Lower Manhattan. There, you can hunt down plenty of amazing deals in the trendy shops on Mott Street between Canal and Chatham Square, as well as around Chinatown.

If window shopping is more your speed, you could always take a coach bus or shuttle van to the Upper East Side and Madison Avenue, where you can do some sightseeing and look at all the fabulously expensive clothes and accessories you can’t afford.

Find a Show

When you’ve finished shopping, you can head back to the theater district, where you will find a limitless array of entertainment choices, including:

  • Carnegie Hall, the famous 19th-century venue for recitals and symphonies;
  • Hudson Theater, the third oldest theatre on Broadway at over a hundred years old;
  • Jazz at Lincoln Center, which is made up of three spaces: Rose Theater, The Appel Room, and Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola. If you like jazz, Rose Theater is regarded as the premier jazz performance venue on the planet.

As with so many things in New York, there are countless tours, performances, and experiences to take in. With a little planning and foresight, you can make even one day in NYC an unforgettable experience.
