If you’re looking for an unforgettable way to kick off your Fourth of July weekend, look no further than the Fair St. Louis, happening from July 2-4 in Forest Park in St. Louis. There, you can enjoy days of live music and entertainment, spectacular fireworks, rides, and other activities, all for the price of free admission. All you have to do to join the party is show up — and Metropolitan Shuttle can help you get there.

A Brief History of the Fair St. Louis

The brainchild of businessman Robert R. Hermann, this event was originally conceived as an effort to promote the city of St. Louis to the country. The first “V.P. Fair” was held in July of 1981, and would eventually become known as “America’s Biggest Birthday Party.” The V.P. fair was renamed to the Fair St. Louis under the guidance of Mel Loewenstein in 1994, in order to put more emphasis on civic pride and showcase the efforts of native St. Louisans.

Since its debut in 1981, the Fair St. Louis has featured a countless number of live acts, including entertainers like the Beach Boys, Elton John, Kenny Rogers, Ray Charles, and more. 2017’s musical lineup will feature Eve 6, Three Doors Down, Sister Hazel, Dan + Shay, Hudson Moore, Jake Owen, and more.

On July 1, 2017, the Fair St. Louis kicks off with the 135th VIP Parade, which will feature twelve marching bands and almost twenty floats, starting at 9 am. The fair opens Sunday with live music and all-day activities and vendors on the fairway. Each day of the fair from Sunday through Tuesday will close with the nationally famous fireworks show at 10:00 pm.

Other events and activities include daily acrobatic dog performances by the Purina Pro Plan Performance Team, face painting for the children, a portable rock wall, and a School of Rock “petting zoo” where kids can try out musical instruments. The fairway features work by local artists and merchandise vendors. Children and adults can also enjoy STEM-based activities and exhibits sponsored by Science and Citizens Organized for Purpose and Exploration (SCOPE).

The Fair St. Louis is a free admission event, open for all ages to enjoy the live music and iconic fireworks display. The fair does not allow outside food, drink, or pets.
